River Llafar - Gwernhefin

Beat Description

Bala Angling Club Water

NOTE: Conditions do apply, so please refer to our club handbook

The Llafar at Gwernhefin is a brown trout river. Most are natural wild fish supplemented by stock fish. As many other upland rivers this water fishes best in flood conditions. Fishing is by any method but no maggots. Traditional flies like the Zulu, Gold ribbed Hare's Ear, Soldier Plamer, Black Spider and so on should do well on this river. Expect the occasional sizeable trout during flood conditions as fish from Llyn Tegid can quickly move upstream to feed in these conditions. Fish to several pounds can be encountered at these times. Worm and spinner can also prove successful during a flood. When the weather is warmer and the river lower, a gently presented dry fly to rising trout is a pleasant and relaxing way to fish the Llafar.
